Welcome to the Illustration Department's Summer Reading Project page for 2008! Every year, we choose a book that all students read over the course of the summer break so that when students return in the fall they have a common cultural experience that be shared and discussed. This year's book is Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Besides being an engrossing read, Frankenstein contains evocative imagery and descriptions that have inspired thousands of artists to create representations of Shelley's monsters and madmen, depressed lovers and elaborate laboratories.

This site contains links to information about the book, several galleries of Frankenstein images from over the years (everything from comics to bookplates). Many (though not all) faculty members exercise the option to give assignments and discussion materials about the book, so it's essential that you have read it. In that spirit, there is short *required* quiz that you must complete. The login records your information so we will know who has taken the quiz and who has not. This is important!
