News: Jeremy Edmiston and Douglas Gauthier SYSTEMarchitects wins 2006 Wilkinson Award for the PARISHhouse

The RAIA has selected the PARISHhouse to receive its highest honor
for residential architecture. A prototype kit home, PARISHhouse is
constructed from 1100 pieces of marine grade plywood, each laser cut
into a unique shape and size and clipped together with
purpose-designed connectors. A crew of architectural students
assembled the basic form in a three week barn raising. The dwelling,
which is a five minute walk from the beach, was conceived as a surf
shack that's cooled in summer by natural ventilation and warmed in
winter by the sun's rays and aims to combine a comfortable
domesticity with a responsive geometric form. Click Here for Details

News:
"The architecture students of The Design Workshop have recently completed their eighth summer designing and
building for the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s “Swing Space” program. INTERCHANGE: NASSAU expresses
LMCC’s presence in reshaping the exchange among artists, businesses, and residents of Lower Manhattan. The project
is organized into three components: conduit, docking walls, and event units which were fabricated on-site using
aluminum, bent plastic, and stained wood. The conduit forms an armature overhead the central space providing lighting
from a series of removable and reconfigurable fluorescent fixtures, and electricity built into the modular sections of the
conduit. The docking walls, located at the end of the conduit system, define a visual boundary that both announces and
veils the activities inside the Event Space. In their unused state, the event units are nested at regular intervals between
the docking walls. During public events, these units, characterized as entry, media, seating/conference, and bar, can be
rolled into different positions throughout the space, allowing for maximum flexibility in their arrangement in order to meet
the various requirements of art openings, screenings, performances, and lectures."
